The Maxx is an epic about a homeless man, who got wrapped up in a woman's fantasy world. This woman is named Julie Winters. Julie is a master at pushing down her feelings. When she was raped she created an Outback where she could escape. Maxx somehow found a way to get into Julie's Outback. He then became comsumed in her world. When he entered her Outback he lost his identity and now he wants it back.

The first story arc was issues #1-11. It dealed with Julie Winters and her Outback. The Outback was created by her to escape what she didn't want to face. The Maxx some how got wrapped up in her fantasy. And he wants to know what is going on in his mind. This story starts to get interesting when it is revealed that The Maxx is a rabbit in the Outback. You may ask why a rabbit. Well this goes back to Julie's childhood when she had a injured bunny. The bunny had a broken leg and it kept scratching the box Julie put it in. The bunny made so much noise that the bunny had to be killed by her mother. Julie saw her mother kill the bunny and when she saw that event she tried to push it down so that she didn't have to think about it. That was the catalyst that fractured her Outback. Maxx was supposed to help her find her truth. But he became lost in Julie's mind. The truth Maxx was supposed to find was Mr. Gone. He often tries to reveal events that Julie doesn't want to hear. He reveals that The Maxx is a key to her puzzle and that she has to leave him to get her life back in order. So she leaves for San Francisco. This is a very brief summary of issues 1-11. There is so much to tell that new comers will have to read issues 1-11.
